Professional Experience

I’m not a salesman. If you were to ask me 20 years ago what I wanted to be when I grew up “Realtor” wouldn’t have been on the list. I was born and raised in Fredericton, New Brunswick living in an upper middle class home. Ever since I could remember, I wanted to be a police officer. My Dad’s a police officer, and I admired that so much. I wanted to make a difference in my community and I thought that policing was the best option for me. Then, at the ripe age of 19, the RCMP rejected (well, deferred) my application. They wanted me to gain some life experience. My partner at the time was accepted into the Mounties and we moved to Prince George, British Columbia. Immersed in policing day to day, I realized I wasn’t cut out for it. I remember feeling horrified listening to stories about the job. I knew that my heart wouldn’t be able to handle that kind of emotional trauma every day. I also realized how much I missed my hometown. I knew that someday I needed to live there again. That isn’t to say we didn’t make the most of living in British Columbia. We bought our first house, and met some amazing people. I also discovered another passion of mine, and that was fitness. It's always been a part of who I am. I coached and participated in competitive cheerleading for 10 years. I also held a personal training certification at the time. I decided to apply to a women-only gym and got hired. This is where I spent my two years of employment in British Columbia. Then, my partner took a job opportunity back in our hometown. Back in Fredericton, I continued on the fitness path for a while. I managed a couple of big chain gyms here in the city, but I couldn’t stand the constant pressure to sell more. I thought that there had to be a better way of connecting with people. Monthly targets, accountability meetings, sales scripts, and cold calls were not my vibe and I would spend hours trying to manage my anxiety around this. In my gut, I knew I still wasn’t aligned. At this point, I made the decision to leave the fitness world professionally. I still chased my own goals. I stayed active, joined more aligned local gyms, and became a powerlifter. Fitness wasn’t the problem. For me, feeling like I was pushing fitness onto other people was the problem. I decided to try something completely different. It was a pretty standard 9-5 position at a software company. Comfortable salary, comfortable benefits, and a good safe company to work for. There were still targets and quota to meet, but I was selling software to businesses over the phone. This felt like less pressure to me and I did pretty well after finding my groove. During my time with the company I got married to my partner, and got pregnant with an awesome little boy. This is when the big shift happened. I was trying to figure out when to come off maternity leave when I realized I didn’t want to go back to that 9-5. I realized that I didn’t want to play a supporting role. I wanted to build something for myself. Enter: Real Estate. We had pretty good experiences with our REALTORS to date. We had bought two properties and sold one. I found myself interested in the business. I knew the average REALTOR was much older than my 25 years, and I saw an opportunity to create something new. Something that appealed to younger adults and challenged the status quo. I knew I wanted to build a business with the idea that people are more important than profit. I wanted to help my clients without feeling like a stereotypical salesman. I studied hard, passed my exam, and joined on with Royal LePage. After a year on my own I connected with my partner and mentor, Karen Syroid. Karen had grown a successful business and brand on her own in a style that was very aligned with my values. She took me under her wing in an industry that can, at times, feel so lonely and confusing. We then decided to partner and form “The Syroid Group.” This grew beyond our expectations and 3 years later we still haven’t looked back. So much personal and professional growth has happened in this time. My husband and I realized our lives were growing in different directions. We parted ways and have remained friends and committed co-parents. I moved out on my own, sold our home, and met my wonderful current partner. Oddly enough, we reconnected through a mutual friend one night, but I knew him already. Remember that random software sales company? We worked together there for 2 years and hardly spoke. Funny how life works, isn’t it? We now have a loving blended family and I am so grateful for that. Professionally, I spent time figuring out who I wanted to be in the real estate industry. I grew a 6 figure business and focused on working with clients I love. I also leveraged social media to grow my local presence. This allows me to connect with clients that I love and stay true to who I am. What you see is what you get and that transparency is a huge part of who I am and what I do. I decided that I didn’t need to be a salesman to be successful. Real Estate isn’t about selling a membership or a product. It’s about helping people move from one point of their lives to another. As a client, you deserve someone in your corner who will offer unfiltered genuine advice. You deserve support to pursue the next phase of your life and grow with your goals. For me, it isn’t business-it’s personal.
